Pump track: sandy dirt for a wet climate
I’m building a pump track in the PNW where the soil is essentially always wet. What do you think an ideal soil mix would be? Would 60% sand / 40% clay be a good balance? Could I go with even more sand?
That sounds good. According to the soil triangle, that’ll be “sandy clay.”
I fear that 30% clay won’t pack well enough for a pump track. Here’s a crazy idea: Go out to a sweet local trail that drains and packs well, then test that dirt with a mason jar.
